378._—Woman, age 43; tried to hang herself. She was at once cut down, bled, and taken to hospital unconscious. Next day, face red; pulse and temperature normal. Third day, conscious and could speak, but not aloud; tongue twisted and turned to right; paralysis of right hypoglossal nerve. Uvula drawn to left. Skin of right limb felt “furry.” Applied electricity and gave strychnine; phonation was more distinct during the use of the battery. Two months later she was still aphonic, but the vocal cords were in better action. The right hemiparesis was lessened.
