Santana Garrett: Trailblazer in Women’s Wrestling and Mentorship
Santana Garrett stands as a luminary in the squared circle of Women of Wrestling (WOW), having witnessed the evolution of professional wrestling’s female-driven landscape since her rookie debut in her father’s promotion. With a career defined by resilience, mentorship, and groundbreaking achievements, Garrett has not only left an indelible mark as a performer but has also emerged as a guiding force for the next generation of women wrestlers.
A Legacy Ignited by Family
Garrett’s passion for wrestling was kindled by her father, “TNT” Kenny G, a beloved grappling icon who captivated audiences. At nineteen, she made her debut for his High Voltage Wrestling promotion, an emotional moment she recounts: “The first time I walked through the curtain, I just saw my dad grinning from ear to ear, and then I started crying because he was just so proud of me.” Though her father is no longer with us, his legacy endures, driving her to honor his spirit both as a competitor and a mentor.
Breaking Barriers in a Male-Dominated Sport
Early in her career, Garrett faced systemic challenges as the only female in her St. Louis wrestling school. “They weren’t very accepting of me. I don’t know if it’s because I’m a female, or if it’s because my dad was a wrestler and they wanted to make me earn it… but they certainly did,” she reflects. To prove her dedication, she immersed herself in rigorous training—flipping tractor tires, enduring grueling mat drills, and absorbing lessons from legends like Sean “X-Pac” Waltman and Scott “Razor Ramon” Hall, who mentored her at the Team Vision Dojo in Florida.
Masters of the Craft: Mentorship and Milestones
Garrett’s ability to absorb wisdom from industry greats proved pivotal. She became the “first lady of the WolfPac,” training alongside Waltman and Hall in intergender tag matches, absorbing techniques from each mentor to refine her skill set. Her efforts culminated in the 2015 NWA World Women’s Championship, with a historic defense in Japan—the first title defense there in 36 years.
In TNA Wrestling, she competed as “Brittany,” while WWE audiences recognized her tenure in NXT. Notably, she entered the 2021 Royal Rumble at No. 12, solidifying her status as a cross-promotional star. Since 2013, her affiliation with WOW has further cemented her legacy, including two championships: the WOW Tag Team Championship and the 2016 WOW World Championship.
Paving the Way for the Next Generation
By 2025, Garrett’s role expanded beyond competition, serving as a guest coach at the WWE Performance Center and empowering emerging talent in WOW. Her vision for women’s wrestling is rooted in inclusivity: “We have independent wrestlers who’ve dedicated years to their craft, aspiring models, actresses, and stunt performers—all shapes, sizes, and backgrounds. If someone wants to wrestle, they can develop the passion, even if it’s not lifelong. The fans will decide, but everyone deserves a chance.”
